Perfect Brow Guide: Finding the Best Eyebrow Style for You

Eyebrows frame the face more than almost any other feature. The right shape can make your eyes look larger, your face more balanced, and your overall look more polished — even when you're wearing no other makeup. The key is finding the shape that works for your specific face, rather than chasing a trend that may not suit you.

Start with your natural shape

Before doing anything, take a good look at your natural brows in good lighting. What do you actually have to work with? Your natural growth pattern is the best starting point — working with it, rather than against it, almost always produces better results.

Mapping your brow

There are three key points to identify:

The start: Hold a straight edge (a pencil or brush) vertically alongside your nose. Where it meets your brow is where your brow should begin. Starting too far in makes brows look heavy and close-set; starting too far out gives a perpetually surprised look.

The arch: Angle the straight edge from your nose past the outer edge of your iris. The highest point of your brow should fall roughly where the edge intersects it. A well-placed arch lifts the eye area and creates a natural-looking curve.

The tail: Continue angling outward from the nose to the outer corner of your eye. This is where your brow should taper and end. Tails that are too short make brows look stubby; too long and they drag the eye downward.

Shape by face type

Oval faces are the most versatile — soft, gently arched brows work well. Avoid overly flat or overly angular shapes.

Round faces benefit from a higher, more defined arch that creates vertical lift and length.

Square faces look great with a softly angled or curved brow — harsh angles echo the jawline and can look unintentionally severe.

Heart-shaped faces suit softer, lower arches — the goal is to balance a wider forehead without adding too much visual weight at the top of the face.

Long faces benefit from flatter brows that create horizontal emphasis and balance the length.
