Top 10 Laser Hair Removal Questions
These are the questions we hear every week. Here are honest, straightforward answers.
1. Does it hurt?
The GentleYAG™ system includes a Dynamic Cooling Device™ that cools the skin surface with a burst of cryogen just before each laser pulse. Most clients describe the sensation as a warming or vibrating feeling, occasionally a quick snap. Pain is very manageable — and much less than waxing for most people.
2. How many sessions will I need?
For most areas, 6–8 sessions produces significant, long-lasting hair reduction. The exact number depends on your hair color, skin tone, hair density, and whether any hormonal factors are at play. Darker, coarser hair tends to respond most quickly.
3. How long between sessions?
Body areas: roughly every 4–6 weeks. Facial areas: every 3–4 weeks. The interval matters — it's calibrated to your hair's growth cycle, so try to stay on schedule.
4. How long does a session take?
Small areas (upper lip, underarms) take 10–15 minutes. Larger areas (full legs, full back) may take 30–45 minutes.
5. What do I need to do before my appointment?
Shave the treatment area 24 hours before. Don't wax, thread, or pluck — the follicle needs to be intact. Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner for at least two weeks before. Come with clean, product-free skin.
6. What do I need to do after?
Avoid sun exposure and apply SPF 30+ to treated areas. Skip hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms for 48 hours. Keep the skin moisturized. Don't pick at any post-treatment redness.
7. Does it work for all hair colors?
It's most effective on dark, pigmented hair — brown, black, and red. It's not effective on blonde, grey, or white hair, which lack the melanin the laser targets. Electrolysis is the better option for those hair colors.
8. Does it work for all skin tones?
The GentleYAG™ system uses a 1064nm wavelength, which is safe across a wide range of skin tones, including darker complexions. We'll assess your skin at the consultation and adjust settings accordingly.
9. Is it permanent?
Most clients achieve 70–85% permanent reduction after completing a full series. Some maintenance sessions once or twice a year may be needed to address any regrowth. Individual results vary based on hair type, hormones, and other factors.
10. Is it worth it?
That's ultimately a personal question, but here's how most of our regular clients answer it: the time and money spent on shaving, waxing, and dealing with ingrown hairs over years adds up quickly. A full laser treatment series typically pays for itself within a few years when compared to the ongoing cost of waxing — and the results are far more lasting.
